The Valentine's Day Session

Sophia
De Nachten

Though great on record, it is perhaps best to catch Sophia live to get a full dose of their emotional slow moving compositions. They rarely play shows so this blue coloured vinyl re-issue of their 2001 era live album is most welcome. It was recorded at various festivals across Europe and includes a bleak cover of John Lennon's Jealous Guy.

Sophia
As We Make Our Way (Unknown Harbours)

Sophia are back after a seven year hiatus and their droning shoegaze is as razor sharp as ever. As We Make Our Way (Unknown Harbours) is an epic collection of indie-rock with plenty of post-rock guitars and some neoclassical touches added for good measure. Released by The Flower Shop Recordings on vinyl LP and CD.

Sophia
The Infinite Circle

A very depressing record....but depressing is good especially when the depressing sounds are made by Robin Proper-Sheppard as Sophia. Here, the former the God Machine singer made his slow burning epic. Each track slowly unfurls as the misery of existence is laid bare. Gorgeous post rock twinklings to confessional emotional rock songs. This has everything.

Sophia
Fixed Water

Robin Proper-Sheppard finished off his previous band the God Machine when their bass player died. The loss that Proper-Sheppard felt carried on to his next project Sophia. A much more song based entity, Sophia still had the taut mechanisms of the God Machine but here bleak and emotional songwriting held sway.
