Redd Kross
Beyond the Door

Redd Kross released their first album in 1982. Their new album, Beyond The Door, is only their 7th album in all that time. Anyway, quality, not quantity is what’s important. They return for the first time in seven years with an album of hard-edged power pop with Melvins drummer, Dale Crover, recording with them for the first time. Fellow Melvins, Geré Fennelly and Buzz Osborne guest, with Anna Waronker from That Dog and current Red Hot Chilli Peppers guitarist, Josh Klinghoffer also putting in appearances.

Redd Kross
Show World

Looks like Third Man are re-issuing a couple of Red Kross's out of print albums starting with their 1997 effort Show World. The band had already been going for well over a decade by that point honing their unique brand pf psychedelia and power-pop. By the time of Show World they were on major label Universal and it was to be their last album before going on a decade long hiatus.

A Redd Kross classic has got the Third Man reissue treatment. Phaseshifter was originally released in 1993. It saw the McDonald brothers blending power pop and heavy rock, which occasionally bordered on psychedelia with tracks like Huge Wonder. The EP features covers of songs by Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Kiss and The Shangri-Las along with one original composition. Redd Kross
Third Eye

Redd Kross began life as part of the 1970’s Los Angeles South Bay punk scene by brothers Steven and Jeff McDonald who were intermittently joined by a revolving cast of members including Greg Hetson (Circle Jerks) and Ron Reyes (Black Flag). Full of catchy, melodic, thrash punk/power pop gems, their major label debut ‘Third Eye’ has been increasingly hard to come by on vinyl until now.

You can pretty much call them a supergroup, made up of members from Circle Jerks, Burning Brides, Redd Kross, and Earthless, and here they captured in their natural state - raw and pure energy. Smashing out 15 songs in under 30 minutes whilst supporting Dinosaur Jr. in 2011. Limited repress on Outer Battery.

Red Kross / Side Eyes
Songs That Chargo Taught Us

Punk bands Red Kross and The Side Eyes each cover a track written by Go-Go’s lead guitarist Charlotte Caffey. Both equally amped up re-imaginings, Screaming is a garage punk tune with loads of energy, while Don’t Talk to Me is a driving, ballsy, angry power chord punk song. Bizarrely The Side Eyes vocal reminded me of The Donnas, take that how you will.

OFF!
Wasted Years

OFF! are the legendary project of former Black Flag vocalist Keith Morris and despite their advancing years make a thrilling punk racket on this, their third album. You get 17 short, sharp and sometimes violent bursts of punk energy all captured live to tape from what I imagine is a very sweaty rehearsal room. Artwork by Raymond Pettibon.
