Mika Vainio
Lydspor One & Two (Blue TB7 Series)

Taken from the recordings the late Mika Vainio made on his visit to the Moog Sound-lab in 2015, it's Lydspor One & Two. Lydspor is Danish for soundtrack, and here -- available for the first time, on two sides of vinyl and CD edition -- are the tracks documenting Vainio's tinkerings with the prototype Moog Modular System 55, a reverse-engineered edition replicating the 1970s classic synth. A second session was planned but sadly Vainio died before that could happen. The record is thus a fitting memorial to a wonderfully gifted, softly spoken man. On Moog Recordings Library.

Ø (Mika Vainio)
ARC 1

A bittersweet release here: the first in a new series of archival releases from the unreleased vaults of Mika Vainio, sadly no longer with us. ARC 1 initiates the series with extracts from a long 1994 ambient piece created for an art-museum-related radio project, under his Ø alias. It’s a 12”, released by Sähkö Recordings, the keepers of the flame.

Pan Sonic & Charlemagne Palestine
Mort Aux Vaches

The first time it’s ever been released on vinyl, Mort Aux Vaches picked up a tiny but dedicated fanbase when first issued on CD in 2000 by Pan Sonic and Charlemagne Palestine. 19 years later, it’s given a new artwork and released on double clear-vinyl. Part of an ongoing ‘Godbear’ series of re-issues of Charlemagne’s work.

I-LP-ON
ÄÄNET

He’s half of reputable and influential Finnish electronic agitators Pan Sonic, the other half being the late Mika Vainio. He’s the Finno- bit in Finno-German duo Angel, the -German bit being Dirk “Schneider™” Dresselhaus. They call him Ilpo Väisänen. He especially likes Viennese labels (such as Editions Mego and Kvitnu). This new one for Editions Mego recalls and commemorates Pan Sonic with Väisänen’s own contemporary flair and style - industrial, dub and club in a minimal form quite unlike anything else.

Mika Vainio
Reat

Although the Pan Sonic legend Mika Vainio sadly passed away earlier this year, his busy work ethic means that there is still unheard music that has been waiting for release. Reat is just such a thing: eight tracks of Mika’s trademark audio wranglings, with subtle drones and hammering noise power all in the mix. First release in years for the Elektro Music Department label.

Ø and Panasonic
Sähkö - The Movie Soundtrack EP

Sähkö The Movie is a 1995 film by Jimi Tenor about the work of the legendary late Mika Vainio, featuring close-up footage of his activities and serving as an incredibly document of an era. This 12” release features tracks taken from the soundtrack, by both main group Pan Sonic (from before the legal trouble when they were still Panasonic) and Mika’s solo, more techno-focused enterprise Ø. Great material.

I-LP-O In Dub
Capital Dub, Chapter 1

Finnish experimentalist Ilpo Väisänen, one half of Pan Sonic and Angel, is somewhat a feature of the Mego family, returning to the label with his follow up full length for Communist Dub. A similar approach can be felt, deconstructed dubby electronics that break and mangle until they become individual noises, falling in and out of form. Basing these compositions on economic crises and the instability of capitalism, obviously.

Pan Sonic
Atomin Paluu

This right here represents the final recordings of Finnish heavyweights Pan Sonic! Suitably for a group with such a brutalist sound, they were commissioned to soundtrack a documentary about building a nuclear power plant: construction recordings are integrated into Vainio and Vaisanen’s harsh digital structures, with award-winning results! Atomin Paluu is out on Blast First Petite.
