Viking of Sixth Avenue

It may be super old, but this Moondog record is getting on for over half a century old yet it really doesn't sound like it at all. It sounds like something some 'indiephile' musician would composer to transcend time and return to the 40's and 50's. Viking of Sixth Avenue is a Double LP on Honest Jon's.

Reissue of avant-garde pioneer Moondog’s self-titled album from 1969, It hasn’t been available on vinyl since 2003. Moondog’s unique approach to composition was revered by Phillip Glass and Steve Reich and is heavily sampled across multiple genres Including Mr Scruff and covered by Antony and the Johnsons.

And His Honking Geese

The late, legendary Moondog has his EP Moondog And His Honking Geese reissued by - who else? - Honest Jon’s. Moondog was a fascinating character whose story is far too rich to go into here, but this 1955 collection is a fine intro for those unfamiliar with ‘The Viking Of 6th Avenue’. The four tracks here are bounding jazz skronks that were years ahead of their time and still don’t sound like much else out there. Everyone from Liquid Liquid to Antibalas to Captain Beefheart can claim lineage to Moondog.
