Corky’s Debt To His Father, the 1970 LP by Red Krayola’s Mayo Thompson, is one of those The Velvet Underground & Nico-type affairs. You know, hardly anyone bought it at the time but those who did changed their whole musical outlook because of it. Way ahead of its time, this set exerts a strong influence over Devendra Banhart, early Animal Collective and all the other ‘freak-folk’ crew who came to prominence in the early 2000’s. Thompson also went on to join Pere Ubu, which makes sense. Corky’s Debt To His Father is reissued by Drag City.
