Call this Norman Records™ blurb writer a sentimental old fart, but I will always have a soft-spot for Maximo Park. I can’t say I’ve bothered to listen to anything they’ve done this decade, but the formative experiences of listening to A Certain Trigger round my mates’ houses as a teenager will forever endear me to Paul Smith and his merry men. Smith’s always been one of indie’s more erudite singers, and his fourth solo LP Diagrams sees him go about his business with the same panache as ever. Smashing.
Hat-wearing Newcastle indie types Maximo Park are back with a sixth album of tightly-wound bookish songs, titled Risk To Exist. As ever, they combine a lively and catchy guitar-led sound with lyrics about society and the like: it is indeed a Risk To Exist in these times eh? Released by the Daylighting label
Missing Songs is a compilation of Maximo Park rarities that is, in itself, rare. This is the first time that it has been issued on vinyl. The material here was recorded around the time as the band’s debut A Certain Trigger: some B-sides, some demo versions, and a nifty cover of John Lennon’s ‘Isolation’. On Warp.
Following their recent foray into the top ten albums chart with the acclaimed 'Too Much Information', Maximo Park announce details of a new single 'Midnight On The Hill' on 12th May 2014.
Armed with a recently sold out UK tour,a much vaunted resurgence and two playlisted singles under their collective belt,2 014 thus far has proven a successful one.
The band have been confirmed for several festival appearances over the coming months and if their recent live showings are anything to go by, the band have lost none of their renowned exhuberance.
