Madness
Full House - The Very Best of Madness

There’s been no shortage of Madness comps over the years, but none more comprehensive or revelatory than this up-to-date career-spanner. Almost evenly split between their initial chart-dominating 80s run and post-reunion highlights, it presents the (occasionally still) Nutty (former) Boys as a British institution of 40 years standing. No less than 42 tracks on a double CD, or 4-LP set with a pop-up gatefold sleeve.

Madness
Total Madness

Total Madness. Complete Madness. Utter, all-encompassing, uniform and undying Madness. Madness. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results - like ska, for instance. Madness. Maddeningly mad Madness. Madness that goes ‘One Step Beyond’ and everywhere else too. Madness. They’re all here, all the mad lads - ‘Baggy Trousers’ (well mad), ‘House of Fun’ (nutty), ‘Our House’ (properly mad), ‘It Must Be Love’ (nothing crazier than love) and the mad bad rest. Madness. Over a quarter of a kilo of vinyl and every gram of it barmy, loopy, off-it’s-rocker … mad. Madness.

Madness
Can't Touch Us Now

Madness really like London don't they? Love the place. Can't stop talking about it. It's a shame their previous album 'Oui Oui, Si Si, Ja Ja, Da Da' was as much of a dud as its title as the earlier 'The Liberty of Norton Fulgate' was a superb late period piece. From the sound of lead single 'Mr Apples' the nutty boys still have that quintessential English thing going along alongside a knack of producing catchy, heartwarming vintage pop. Long may they rein.
