As the sixth album from chilled US alt-rockers Luna, this collection - aptly named Romantica - is a dreamy installment from a band that sway delicately in the wind. Initially released way back in 2002, this repressing breathes life back into a project that still feels relevant and continually timeless.
Easy listen seems to be the mission statement of weathered US alt-rockers, Luna. Here is a repressing of a 13-year-old Rendezvous - which still sounds fresh and timeless enough to have been released yesterday. Its opening track, Malibu Love Nest, is perhaps its highlight with help from soft drums and an array of prodding guitar solos.
A Sentimental Education marks the exciting return of indie rock luminaries Luna, after thirteen years away. The album finds them covering songs by some of their favourite artists, a selection you may be surprised to hear leans towards classic rock: Yes, Fleetwood Mac and David Bowie all turn up, albeit in Luna’s own inimitable style. If you get the double CD version, you’ll also receive an EP of original instrumentals.

California Blue/Rock Yr Baby by Luna is a 7” featuring two cover versions and will be released alongside the band’s new album A Sentimental Journey. Side A, California Blue is a cover of a song written by ELO’s Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty and Roy Orbison which was originally released on Roy Orbison’s 1989 ‘comeback’ LP Mystery Girl. The band claimed to have eschewed Jeff Lynne’s production style instead opting for a sound akin to Pavement’s off-kilter country classic, Range Life. The B-Side contains a cover of George McCrae’s disco classic and recent Luna live favourite Rock Yr Baby.
Luna’s Dean Wareham hooked up with his friend Cheval Sombre to record an album of western themed songs. Lonesome Cowboy Bill is one of two 7” singles to be released by Feral Child. Throughout Dean Wareham’s career with Galaxie 500 and Luna, the influence of the Velvet Underground has been apparent. Here, with Luna, he doffs his cap by covering the Doug Yule-penned song from the Velvet Underground’s Loaded album. On side B, Cheval Sombre gives us his interpretation. The album is due in 2018, until then you can enjoy Luna's more recent LP A Sentimental Education.

H+P Split 7" 01
The Huntleys + Palmers label move into the small-but-perfectly-formed world of 7”s, with this tasty split. Two A-sides, one from Luna, featuring a vocal from Alejandro Paz, and one from Carisma. Each provide fresh-cutting electro of the highest order. The title, H+P Split 7” 01 suggests that there is more of this sort of thing to come too!
