Waters is a four-track EP from Earlham Mystics. It can only be described as a collection of head-heavy beats and repetitive notes played on a variety of differing electronic instruments. The record feels like it could be in any smokey underground and late night club as you get lost in the rhythmic soundscapes. This EP is available on Vinyl 12” and is released on Notown.
DJ, producer and Border Community label head James Holden pairs with artist and producer Luke Abbott for 70 minutes of trippy and minimal synthesizer drone. The two pieces on this double vinyl LP split (with download code) were composed for Terry Riley’s 80th birthday and fittingly are extended, improvised drones influenced by Riley’s hypnotic and percussive music.
Earlham Mystics is the new moniker of Norfolk’s Luke Abbott. Released through Gold Panda’s Notown label, and with three years since his last solo full length, The Truth EP, and indeed the project itself is much more percussion focus, and has a melodious pop centric style to it. Stolen Hearts is a sublime head nodder filled with the summer sun.
Ambient synth-ster Luke Abbott has teamed up with Portico Quartet saxophonist Jake Wyllie for this self-titled collaborative debut. The pair improvised together over a period of months, and then edited down to the soundworlds we hear on this LP, which are reminiscent of the more tasteful side of new-age ambience. 12” on the Buffalo Temple label.
Luke Abbott's newest release, Music For a Flat Landscape, follows in the footsteps of prior record Wysing Forest, unfurling a complicated electronic soundscape into something that's ultimately beautiful and accessible. This music was originally commissioned as a soundtrack for movie The Goob, but it stands as itself as impressionistic electronica that can be listened to for its own ambience.
