Malcolm Middleton
Bananas

‘Yes, we have no bananas’ as the old song goes. Well let me tell you, Malcolm Middleton does, not only are there two on the front cover of his new album, but the album itself is called Bananas. The ex-Arab Strap man is backed by piano, double bass and drums with King Creosote and Withered Hand featuring on backing Vocals. LP on Triassic Tusk.

L. Pierre
1948-

L.Pierre, who we can reveal is in fact Arab Strap’s Aidan Moffat, is releasing a very interesting new project here. 1948- is made entirely from samples of the first ever 33 ⅓ 12” record, a 1948 recording of a Mendelssohn concerto. What’s more, it is presented as ‘naked’ vinyl, e.g. utterly sleeveless, in the hope that you’ll let your copy pick up interesting new scratches. Nice one! Vinyl only release on Melodic.

Arab Strap
Arab Strap

Look at them there on the sleeve. They look a lot older than that now and to the delight of their fans have reformed for a few shows this October. To tie in with this comes this compilation of some of their best bits as well as rarities and B sides etc.  Arab Strap were always a lot more than their pished up image suggested with lots of gorgeous music backing Aidan Moffatt's slurred tales.

Arab Strap
The Week Never Starts Round Here

Hold up -- it's Arab Strap's first ever record. Without any of the reservations and noble ideas the band would go on to incorporate, The Week Never Starts Round Here sees the band offer fourteen tracks of more innocuous alt rock that still betrays their sensibilities for post-rock and instrumental experimentation.
