Sonic Youth
Battery Park, NYC: July 4th 2008

Hear Sonic Youth  in the twilight of their great and mighty career, performing live at New York’s Battery Park on the Fourth of July 2008 (USA! USA!). This storming and comprehensive live recording was previously only available with special pre-orders of The Eternal, but is now readily available, and on tasty vinyl too, Thanks Matador.

Lee Ranaldo + Raül Refree
Names of North End Women

Names of North End Women is a new collaborative record between former Sonic Youth guitarist Lee Ranaldo and Spanish composer Raül Refree. The pair had previously worked together when Refree produced the guitarist’s 2017 solo album Electric Trim, but soon after touring they decided to head back to the studio on a more equal creative footing.

Lee Ranaldo
Electric Trim Live At Rough Trade East

Ex-Sonic Youth man Lee Ranaldo has announced a new live album! Electric Trim Live At Rough Trade East was recorded solo at the intimate setting of the popular East London record shop, on the first date of the UK leg of his Electric Trim tour. Performed excitingly 'just-as-he-wanted-them-to-be', the songs in this set are fresh and stripped-back of arrangements, pared down to the simplicity and sturdiness of the structures and the songs themselves. LP on Mute, with a download included for 2 bonus tracks.

Lee Ranaldo, Jim Jarmusch, Marc Urselli, Balázs Pándi
s/t

The curiously titled s/t is the brainchild of producer Marc Urselli, who brought together three complete strangers to each other (indie filmmaker Jim Jarmusch, Sonic Youth guitarist Lee Ranaldo and sometime Merzbow drummer Balázs Pándi) for a one-off, late-night studio session in New York. CD edition contains two extra tracks from the three-track LP version.

Lee Ranaldo
Electric Trim

Ranaldo is often seen as second fiddle to Thurston Moore's sonic experimentation but is still loved by obsessive Sonic Youth fans around the world, 'Electric Trim' is the follow up to 2013's more song based 'Last Night On Earth' and is a collaboration with producer Raül ‘Refree’ Fernandez and a host of live players including Sharon Van Etten, Kid Millions, Wilco's Nels Cline and of course long time friend and SY bandmate Steve Shelley.

Lee Ranaldo and The Dust
Last Night On Earth

Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo hits double-figures for solo LPs with Last Night On Earth. Written in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy - an event that left the Manhattanite Ranaldo and his family without electricity, hear and running water - this album is decidedly more pensive than 2012’s peppy Between The Times And The Tides. Backed by The Dust, Ranaldo’s meditations on life and society are swelled to a point where they resemble Idlewild and Red House Painters.

Sonic Youth
A Thousand Leaves

One of the more experimental records from later on Sonic Youth, there's still plenty of tunes to be had at. It even topped The Wire's records of the year back in 1998! 'A Thousand Leaves' is full of psychedelic suites, dissonant riffing, feedback collages and the ultra-cool delivery of three of their four members. Includes the well-known piece 'Sunday'.

Sonic Youth
Confusion is Sex

Your favourite uncle of noise rock, ok, maybe more like wisen parents, Sonic Youth’s 1983 album Confusion Is Sex is a dark backwards step into their more primitive state. Noisy, disjointed and clanky as hell. Guitars being destroyed for your listening pleasure. Repressed by Goofin’, good work guys. Yes. Just Yes.

Sonic Youth
The Eternal

From the crunch and screech of opening number ‘Sacred Trickster’ you know that Sonic Youth are not messing around on ‘The Eternal’. Their fifteenth and final LP, this 2009 set sees the more considered sound of 2006’s ‘Rather Ripped’ exchanged for some of the meatiest riffage that Sonic Youth delivered at any point in their career (well, their later career at least). Grinding yet melodic, ‘The Eternal’ is a parting throwdown to all the young pretenders who had come out in the band’s wake.
