Engine Takes To The Water

Engine takes to Water was the debut album from June of 44 released originally in 1995. It fit perfectly in at post Spiderland moment where bands played eerie slowed down math rock with quiet/loud dynamics. The quartet all lived in different cities and features former members of the likes of Rodan and Lungfish and future members of the For Carnation and Him.

Tropics and Meridians

Tropics and Meridians was the second album from math-rock quartet June of 44. Where their debut Engine Takes to Water was heavily indebted to Slint, Tropics and Meridians explored electronic and jazz territories and was often compared to the work of Tortoise. one of the many bands from that era making fascinating explorative music  - members went on to the For Carnation and Him amongst others.

Four Great Points

So you've heard 'Spiderland' and you're wondering to yourself, were there any other bands capable of striking that potent balance of post-rock and hardcore, of beauty and pain? My friends, it is my pleasure to say that yes, there were. June of 44 for example, whose third album is as much a masterpiece as anything Slint managed. Don't believe me? Give the opener on 'Four Great Points' a whirl. Whew.
