Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
Orange

A re-issue for Orange, the fourth studio album from garage/blues revivalists Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. Originally released in 1994, and fronted by the scintillating single ‘Bellbottoms’, which played such a prominent part in the movie Baby Driver recently, the album received plenty of acclaim for its brilliantly unhinged delivery.

Jon Spencer
Spencer Sings The Hits

Jon... what did you do Jon? What did you do? What did you do to them? Where are they Jon? Jon! Where are the Blues Explosion?!  Despite my suspicions, it is my job to inform you Jon Spencer is back, and this time, he's singing the hits. On it the New York's garage rock legend offers his heart in exchange for us forgetting he ever had a Blues Explosion.

Boss Hog
Brood X

16 years down from the last Boss Hog release and the formula remains unchanged. Christina Martinez sneers effusively in a manner pitched somewhere between Kathleen Hanna and Debbie Harry; Jon Spencer’s licks haven’t lost any fuzz even if he may have acquired some grey hairs over the years; and the ten tracks here are tight and punchy slabs of good old-fashioned down-home punk rock. Oh, and it was recorded on Sly Stone's desk you know.

Boss Hog
Brood Star

Boss Hog is one of the slightly lesser-known projects of big rock & roll man Jon Spencer, forming a potent double act with the fierce Cristina Martinez. Brood Star is a brand new release issued as a preview for a forthcoming full-length, although it makes a potent enough mark in just 4 songs, I have to say. 12” EP on In The Red.

That's It Baby Right Now We Got To Do It Let's Dance! (Live in Tokyo 2015)

Jon Spencer Blues Explosion - That’s It Baby Now We Got To Do It Let’s Dance (Live In Tokyo 2015) Captures the world’s wildest rock ‘n’ roll three-piece on top form. Armed with only two guitars, a drum kit and a theremin, JSBX burn through songs from their Freedom Tower album, throwing in a few fan favourites and covers along the way.

Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
Human Obscene / Shake That Bat

The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion continue their series of jukebox singles: yes indeed, 45’ speed 7” records with an extra-large centre-hole so that you can actually load it into any jukeboxes you might happen to own. Human Obscene / Shake That Bat is a particularly gnarly pair of fuzzy rock-out tracks, both exclusive to this release on In The Red.

Freedom Tower - No Wave Dance Party 2015

At Lollapalooza in New York in 1995, Thurston Moore, of Headliners Sonic Youth, proclaimed Jon Spencer to be the king of New York as he dedicated a song to him. 20 years later comes Freedom Tower - No Wave Dance Party 2015, the new album from Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. The king of New York tells stories about his city with the help of trusty sidekicks Judah Bauer and Russell Simins. They know the streets, the bars, the sweltering summers, the freezing winters, the rock and the roll. Watch out - this is the real deal!

Now I Got Worry

'Now I Got Worry', alongside 'Orange' is regularly classed as being the best album from the Jon Spencer camp. It's a 90s update on the blues and sets off where The Gun Club left off and where early White Stripes were just about to begin. Raucous blues riffs meet punk and garage rock simplicity to shape sixteen tracks of super-fun and energetic music.

Extra Width

The title not referring to my waistline I hope Jon you cheeky bugger. Extra Width was the third album by Jon Spencer and his Blues Expolosion and cemented the blend of rock and roll, garage and rockabilly that he and his comrades would take around the globe. It was their first for Matador but now comes as a remastered LP on Shove. Just one thing to add.... BLUES EXPLOSION!!
