Gramm (Jan Jelinek)
Personal Rock

This is the debut album of Gramm, aka Jan Jelinek, two decades old this year. Personal Rock is not rock, it is luscious loop-based night-time cool-party music, made with delicious electronics. This material is a bit more forward in its beats and house stylings than Jelinek’s better-known work, but it is still gorgeously subtle. Reissued on vinyl by Fatiche.

ASUNA & Jan Jelinek
Signals Bulletin

Jan Jelinek, meet ASUNA. Mr ASUNA here plays organ in a very deliberate way, sustaining long tones through the use of sticky tape. Jelinek meets these drone tone clusters with synthesiser and loops (of course!) of field recordings, and the whole thing adds up to a gorgeous textural and quasi-rhythmical experience. Signals Bulletin is released by Faitiche.

Jan Jelinek
Zwischen

The very last thing anybody wants in an interview is to be lost for words, caught off-guard, or to stumble over an expression. That’s why for this album, naughty Jan Jelinek isolated only such moments between words from interviews with twelve public figures, ranging from John Cage to Lady Gaga to Yoko Ono. These pauses, exhalations and nervous laughs also control various synthesiser functions, resulting overall in a strangely satisfying series of experimental-accidental poetry.

Jan Jelinek & Computer Soup
Improvisations and Edits, Tokyo 26.09.2001

On the 26th September 2001 four men, Jan Jelinek and Computer Soup, sat on the floor of a Tokyo living room and improvised for three hours. They used a trumpet, and various toys and electronics. The group then edited separately, resulting in this, a weird and unique exploration of creativity.

Loop-Finding-Jazz-Records

Released in 2001 Loop-Finding-Jazz-Records by Jan Jelinek has sat on so many people’s wish list since because it has not been repressed once. Well, major props to Faitiche for answering the call, not only as a double vinyl but with two bonus tracks taken from the Tendency EP. Micro sampling ambient techno at it’s very best.

Masayoshi Fujita & Jan Jelinek
Schaum

Masayoshi Fujita prepares his vibraphone with pieces of metal, toys, and percussion while Jan Jelinek layers his micro loops around his performance. Their second collaborative album after playing live together for ages, the result is a bizarrely jazzy minimal electronic soundscape, kind of James Bond bad guy esque.
