Jamie Lidell Vinyl, CD & tapes by Jamie Lidell at Norman Records
This record, When I Come Back Round, is the live version of a work by Matthew Herbert and Jamie Lidell. Both are standout artists on the experimental house scene, so a collaboration was always going to be powerful. The release also contains Herbert’s own release entitled ‘Megaphone’. Available on Vinyl LP.
Really smooth music from Huntingdon's answer to Marvin Gaye. Liddell has been soulful for many years but he sounds like some kind of cross between Gaye and Stevie Wonder slinking his way through a batch of laid back electronic soul. He uses the cream of the world's best session musician to create this soporific, psychedelic soul that is so thick you could stand a spoon in it.
Producer A-Trak is riding high on the EDM wave at the moment, with those sugar-rush synths, vertiginous drops and huge popular rhythms his stock-in-trade. For All Fall Down he’s teamed up with neo-soul man Jamie Lidell for a single that sounds like it already knows it’s going to be a massive hit. 7” on Fools Gold
