Somei Satoh
Mandala Trilogy + 1

Spread over four sides of vinyl, WRWTFWW compiles all three sections of Japanese contemporary composer Somei Satoh’s ‘Mandala Trilogy’ - that is, three pieces inspired by the Avatamsaka Sutra. Comprising 1982’s ‘Mandala’, 1986’s ‘Mantra’ and 1990’s ‘Tantra’, the '+ 1' in question is a 2004 live recording commissioned by harpist Ayako Shinoza-Ki and titled ‘Mai’. An essential listen for any fans of drone, ambient or minimalist music.

Somei Satoh
Emerald Tablet / Echoes

WRWTFWW gathers together two of Japanese composer Somei Satoh’s most significant works on one slab of vinyl. 1978’s ‘Emerald Tablet’ is paired with 1981’s ‘Echoes’, both sourced from the original master tapes, and they’re accompanied by new liner notes from Japanese music critic and collector Masaaki Hara. Ranges from quiet, eerie drones ala Eliane Radigue to Merzbow-esque noise walls.
