Irmin Schmidt
Villa Wunderbar

Irmin Schmidt was one of the founding members of brilliant German band Can. Villa Wunderbar is a four LP box set of his solo ventures. The first two LPs compile the best stuff from his solo albums, recorded over a period of over 30 years, whilst the other two LPs are the best of his TV and film soundtrack work compiled by none other than German filmmaker Wim Wenders.

Irmin Schmidt
5 Klavierstücke

An album of solo piano pieces from Can keyboardist Irmin Schmidt here. The five tracks of 5 Klavierstücke are one-take improvisations which were recorded on two grand pianos - one prepared, one unprepared - and augmented with ambient noise from around the studio in the south of France. The prepared instrument forms the core of the record, and in doing so it gives the LP a strong whiff of Schmidt's one-time tutor John Cage.
