Greg Foat’s latest album was recorded at Malcom Catto’s (The Heliocentrics) studio where Malcom’s ability to create a big sound with vintage equipment is legendary. Whilst Foat is a jazz musician, he tends to bring other styles to the table too - for The Dreaming Jewels it’s the regular bedfellows, funk and fusion. Binker Golding of Binker and Moses and Hugh Harris of The Kooks along with Catto, make up the band for this album.

Electronic music artists Greg Foat and James Thorpe continue their loving tribute to the curious world of library music with their second record. Photosynthesis was delivered by surprise to the Athens of the North label earlier in 2019, having been recorded quickly on quarter-inch tape on the Isle of Wight. 

On his ninth LP the pianist Greg Foat aims to join the dots between the exciting new British jazz wave and some older generations. As such we see young whippersnappers Moses Boyd and Malcolm Catto (The Heliocentrics) lining up alongside more seasoned artists like Duncan Lamont and Ray Russell as part of The Mage’s supporting cast. The resulting sound mixes British folk styles with classic and contemporary jazz takes, and there’s also a pleasingly trippy seam that runs through The Mage.
