Mitchell’s seventh album got some sniffy reviews back in 1975, but is now recognised as a subtle and complex jazz-inflected masterpiece. The title track is as smooth and groovy as peak Steely Dan, while Crosby, Stills and Nash guest on the buoyant In France They Kiss On Main Street. However the biggest surprise is The Jungle Line, a viciously funny indictment of the art world set to a distorted loop of Burundi drumming and Moog synth that feels a decade ahead of its time.
If you associate Mitchell with hippy festivals and large hireable vehicles, this will be a real eye- and ear-opener.
