Jesse Sharps recorded Sharps And Flats in 1985, a time when he was leading Horace Tapscott’s Pan-Afrikan Peoples Arkestra. Indeed Tapscott himself plays piano on two tracks here, and final entry ‘McKowsky’s First Fifth’ is a full P.A.P.A. piece. For the first six numbers Sharps brings the freedom and fire of the P.A.P.A to his quintet while allowing more space for classic melody sections.
