Think Twice

The press release for Tenderlonious’ Think Twice EP proudly declares this thing to be ‘Detroit techno via Woking and South London!’. Well, we’ve no idea what music from Woking usually sounds like, and if we’re heading to the Midwest then honestly these tracks have more in common with the velveteen house aesthetic of Moodymann than they do with the tough techno of, say, Underground Resistance. At least they got the South London bit right - assuming that the South London scene they’re referring to is the jazz-tinged party stylings of labels like Rhythm Section International and not, like, So Solid Crew.

Hard Rain

This new album by Tenderlonious, 'Hard Rain', looks like a nice mix of urban jazz and vintage hip-hop, with elements of ambient, funk, and trip-hop. Tenderlonious is not only a solo artist but the head of an up-and-coming record label 22a, a DJ, a producer, and multi-instrumentalist. This is clearly a one to watch.

The Shakedown featuring The 22archestra

Ed 'Tenderlonious' Cawthorne is a virtuoso saxophonist, flautist, and band leader. On The Shakedown he and The 22archestra (featuring Yussef Dayes of Yussef Kamaal on drums) show off the extent of Tenderlonious's abilities by building a supremely fun jazz album out of hip hop, funk, and Afrobeat.
