Talking Heads / Crows Perch

Soon-to-be-massive Londoners black midi are trying very hard to adopt an enigmatic persona with a series of low key releases such as the bmbmbm (we told you they were enigmatic) 7" on Speedy Wunderground. Finally they release their first big thing and it's of no surprise that Rough Trade have snapped them up. Their sound is energetic, danceable, accessible but also somewhat original. We haven't got many of these so you'll need to be quick to get on board.

black midi are one of the most exciting acts to come out of...um....we presume London in some time (actually the Brit School  - disappointed ed) . Signed to Rough Trade and fond of creating a enigmatic image,  this is their much anticipated debut. We at least have their names now (there's at last one double-barrelled in there) and we've been given the slither of info that this was recorded with Speedy Wunderground's Dan Carey. Could be one of the year's biggest new things.

I know that we're always being accused of being ageist but who knew that Dan Carey was 48? I always had him down as some young whippersnapper. I'm kind of glad actually. Anyway here he produces a debut record by this 'enigmatic' London band. It's one of those things that people like me say is the worst thing they've ever heard then it becomes really big and you realise you were wrong all along.
