Park Jiha
Philos

Park Jiha first came to our attention with 2018's Communion which was a compelling blend of traditional South Korean musicality with genres like jazz and ambient. On Philos she takes this same approach, but creates tracks of such great density that they can't help filling whatever room they're played in. On tak:til.

Park Jiha
Communion

Having gained recognition as a member of the Korean neo-traditionalist duo [su:m], Park Jiha broadens her already rich musical vocabulary on her debut solo album. Composing for instruments like the hammered dulcimer and piri (a double-reeded bamboo flute), Park and her ensemble create a quietly intoxicating blend of sounds that skirts between native Korean styles, minimalism, free jazz and contemporary classical composition. To Western ears there are oblique references to Steve Reich and Sarah Neufeld.
