Durand Jones & The Indications
American Love Call

Durand Jones is one of them there soul singers. On his second studio LP American Love Call, Jones and his band The Indications do a fine job at recreating the sounds, sights and smells (not really - it's not scratch 'n' sniff) of the genre’s ‘70s golden age. Curtis Mayfield would be pleased with the lilting grooves and smooth vocals on tunes like 'Don’t You Know’. Aaron Frazer guests on a bunch of cuts.

Durand Jones & The Indications Live Vol. 1

I keep wondering if there's any other musician out there called Durand that Durand Jones could collaborate so they can form Durand Durand. While music on that I've had a read of what this is all about and it seems it's more modern day but retro sounding soul stuff that will appeal in particular to fans of Charles Bradley. This is a live LP where the added sweat adds that frisson of excitement to these soul belters.

Secretly Canadian sub-label Dead Oceans teams up with Colemine to front the debut LP from Indiana soulsters Durand Jones & The Indicators. After the sad passing of Charles Bradley there’s now a gap in the market for this sort of thing. With Jones’s soulful croon and his group’s faithful homages to golden-age James Brown and Otis Redding, this lot might be the ones to fill it.
