Hardijs Lediņš
Tiny Crabs Of Deep Waters

Hardijs Lediņš, co-founding member of excellent and rather unsung Latvian experimenters NSRD, first released Tiny Crabs of Deep Waters in 1999. Despite its turn-of-the-century release, it sounds as if it may have been in gestation since NSRD’s 1980s heyday. Lots of charming, folk-tinged pads, tape and sample experiments, vintage synth effects and the like. That’s a great title, as well.

A brilliant step into the avant garde from Latvian group NSRD. It sort of takes a cue from the 80s French avant prog scene but there's a lo-fi electronic element that's more in step with Haruomi Hosono too. Either way it's full of bizarre sonic switches, sudden grooves and a constant threat of total madness.

The Workshop For The Restoration Of Unfelt Feelings

An exemplary retrospective of the rather busy 1980s release schedule of Latvian underground experimentalists NSRD (or Nebijušu Sajūtu Restaurēšanas Darbnīca, of which this release’s title, The Workshop for the Restoration of Unfelt Feelings, is a translation). Appearing on vinyl for the first time, this newly-remastered selection gives quite an overview of the band’s peculiar and inventive oeuvre, which ranges from rather bleak new wave to experimental synth beds for spoken-word pieces.
