Roberto Musci / Giovanni Venosta
Water Messages on Desert Sand

Originally released in 1987 (by Chris Cutler), Water Messages on Desert Sand is a remarkable suite of international collage, mixing field recordings with synths, tapes, samples, effects and acoustic instrumentation. The results are finally woven like a tapestry, with an ethnographic element that just enhances the weight of the compositions. Reissued by ReR.

Roberto Musci / Giovanni Venosta
Urban and Tribal Portraits

It's a good time to be a fan of Roberto Musci and Giovanni Venosta, as both this album and Water Messages on Desert Sand are currently getting nice vinyl reissues. Urban and Tribal Portraits is, as you might imagine, something of an ethnographic album, weaving in international styles and recordings, but there is so much more than that going on in this tightly-woven work. Reissued by Soave.

Giovanni Venosta
Olympic Signals

Giovanni Venosta's musical comedy Olympic Signals was originally released in 1984 and took as its parameters the world of minimalism. Sending up the genre and its big names, who Venosta had felt restricted by, the record offers "47 minutes of inspired Italian minimalism", though with plenty of sideways glances and fourth wall implications. Features contributions from Roberto Musci.
