Jackie Shane
Any Other Way / Sticks and Stones

Soul legend William Bell wrote the song Any Other Way. It was taken up by Bostonian Jackie Shane - a transgender pioneer - who recorded the song, originally a mournful break-up song as the lyrics suited her need for a gay liberation anthem. It was originally released in 1962 - the same year William Bell cut his version in Memphis. B/w Sticks and Stones.

Jackie Shane
Any Other Way

A pioneering figure who is thoroughly deserving of the retrospective interest in her career, Any Other Way is the first collection of Jackie Shane’s work approved by the artist herself. Though at the time her work barely got beyond the clubs of Toronto, Shane’s strong voice and stronger presence as a transgender woman in 1960’s North America has seen her influence spread far over the years. This LP brings together live recordings and her run of 45s, all of which demonstrate her unique command of soul, funk and r&b. Includes three previously unreleased tracks.
