Grizzly Bear Vinyl, CD & tapes by Grizzly Bear at Norman Records

Originally a solo venture for the artistic musings of frontman Ed Droste, it's a miracle that Grizzly Bear became what it is today. As if stumbling into meticulousness, the band turned its haphazard and shambolic folk frenzies into an ornate, eleg...read more »

Fools
Fools' Harp Vol. 1

Fools’ Harp Vol. 1 is the debut solo album from Grizzly Bear percussionist Christopher Bear, recording under the name Fools. Recorded largely during a six-week jamming session in the summer of 2019 in which he played every instrument himself, the results have a self-professed ‘mixtape’ feel, and explore strange areas while remaining rooted in the familiar.

Grizzly Bear
Horn of Plenty

Horn of Plenty was the debut Grizzly Bear album released in 2005 but at that stage Grizzly Bear was really just the bedroom recordings of Ed Droste assisted by the aptly named Chris Bear. They've come a long way since then but listening to the origins of the project is always fascinating. This new edition comes with a digital download for the full album plus a remix album featuring Ariel Pink and Efterklang amongst others.

Grizzly Bear
Veckatimest

Grizzly Bear’s ‘Veckatimest’ is pretty hard to pinpoint to any particular genre. It’s got elements of pastoral folk, flourishes of psychedelia, hints of autumnal indie rock and warm chamber pop. The Brooklyn group hit a home run with the crossover hit ‘Two Weeks’, seemingly because they opted for more structured songwriting rather than the pastoral sprawl of their first two records.

Grizzly Bear
Painted Ruins

Grizzly Bear have been away for about five years now and have now returned with their first since the wild and windy ‘Shields’. Early tasters of their new material give the impression that they are heading in a well constructed synth pop direction with their unique take on harmony and melody intact. Bound to be much anticipated.

Grizzly Bear
Shields

Always good for a tune, old Grizzly Bear. The New Yorkers had a point to prove on ‘Shields’ – after all, this 2012 LP was the first full-length that the band released since their 2009 LP ‘Veckatimest’ pushed them into the upper-echelons of the alternative rocksphere. Mind you, if Grizzly Bear were feeling the pressure then they didn't show it here, pooling their considerable songwriting resources to come up with another set of harmonious indie-rock anthems.
