Alex Rex

Alex Rex, real name Alex Neilson, was the drummer in Scottish folk rockers Trembling Bells, as well as drumming for the likes of Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Shirley Collins, Jandek and Current 93 among others. Andromeda is his third album. It follows Vermillion and Otterburn. Judging by the track ‘Pass the Mask’ this should please fans of Bonnie “Prince” Billy and promises to be a bloody good record. Folk legend Shirley Collins and Belle & Sebastian guitarist Stevie Jackson make guest appearances.

I Am The King

Trembling Bells are a folky Scottish collective who feature drummer Alex Neilson who also appears here as Alex Rex. The Trembling Bells songs are inspired by Greek myths whilst the Alex Rex songs are both covers inspired by his late younger brother Alasdair - the traditional Night Visiting Song and John Cale's You Know More Than I Know.

The Auld Triangle

Like a sort of raggle-taggle version of Band Aid, Scottish folk minstrels Trembling Bells have hauled a pile of their famous friends into the studio to sing this song much beloved of drunks. Alasdair Roberts, Ricky Ross (really?) , Dan Haywood, Mike Heron, Scott Fagan and Amy Cutler all lend a hand on a tune which could rival 'Fairytale of New York' in the weep at Christmas stakes.
