Kelly Lee Owens
Let It Go

Kelly Lee Owens gives a proper 12” release to Let It Go, a juicy banger previously only heard in the bowels of Fabric. A rubbery rhythm bounces along with vigour and confidence, giving way to the breathy titular vocal. The track is supported by another exclusive cut, Omen. 12” on Smalltown Supersound.

Kelly Lee Owens

Shape-shifter Kelly Lee Owens was rocketed onto the radar by providing vocals for Daniel Avery’s debut full length Drone Logic, and has since not stayed in a single form, jumping from ambient to dreamy pop and dancefloor grooves. Her debut for Smalltown Supersound dives into deep dance floor territories. Features a rework of Jenny Hval’s Kingsize.

Birds (Prins Thomas Remixes)

The eponymous debut LP from Kelly Lee Owens has generated plenty of traction since its release last year via Smalltown Supersound (Dungen, Biosphere). Now we get its first (and apparently only) remix EP. Prins Thomas has certainly put the work in on this one - his flip of Kelly Lee Owens highlight ‘Bird’ clocks in at over 17 minutes. Thomas luxuriates in the lengthy runtime. The first few minutes see the track blossom from quiet beginnings into a delicate conga-house groove, then things switch up and Thomas locks into a propulsive minimal techno roller. We also get the KLO original and a DJ edit of Thomas’s entry.

More Than A Woman

Kelly Lee Owens -- definitely not one to rest on her laurels -- is set to follow up her riotous and supremely confident self-titled debut album in 2017 with a cover of Aaliyah's 'More Than A Woman'. Owens has made known her deep respect of the artist, her vocal work and Timbaland's productions; especially since setting about deconstructing all the layers of the song. She combines her favourite aspects of the track with her love of analog equipment, and her remix gives the version even more power. Limited 12" on Smalltown Supersound.

Kelly Lee Owens

As her star rises ever-higher, Kelly Lee Owens has picked a fine moment to release her debut full-length. ‘The colours, the beauty, the motion’ she opines over ‘CBM’, and it’s a neat summation of a record that has its eyes firmly on the dancefloor while still searching for the personal warmth of classic singer-songwriter fare. No surprise, then, that ‘Arthur’ is a paean to Arthur Russell and single ‘Anxi’ is a Jenny Hval collab.
