Warp's certifiable sad boys, Gravenhurst, made classic minimalist music that swayed in the tree-line between post-rock, shoegaze and slowcore. 'Offerings: Lost Songs 2000 - 2004' does pretty much what it says it's going to, showing off the work of Nick Talbot's through never heard acoustic compositions and intricate instrumentals. It feels almost fitting that there have been these Gravenhurst songs out there that have never been listened to -- but it's better still to get them out in the open.
A band with a lot of post-rock commotion and grimacing facial expressions, Gravenhurst might seem like an odd fit for Warp now. Back in 2004, though, they were all the rage, and this collection shows the band at their atmospheric best, with their first two records -- 'Flashlight Seasons' and 'Black Holes In The Sand' -- reissued with a lot of supplementary material. More misery, please.
