Johnny Jewel
Themes For Television

He’s prolific, that Johnny Jewel. Despite running Italians Do It Better and being in Chromatics, he still manages to find time to turn out an impressive amount of solo material. No sooner has the dust settled on Jewel’s January LP Digital Rain than we get Themes For Television, a twenty-one track collection of music intended for the reboot of David Lynch’s Twin Peaks. Only ‘Windswept’ made it onto the show in the end, but the remaining pieces conjure that very specific TP mood very well indeed.

Johnny Jewel
Digital Rain

Just six months after Windswept, which featured some of his memorable contributions to the latest Twin Peaks series, Mr. Jewel’s ready with the next batch. The concept of Digital Rain is to evoke precipitation, which Johnny doubtless experiences little of in Los Angeles, and to convey liquid structures. Expect lots of gentle transitions between vignettes of rain samples, melancholy synths, dripping glockenspiel and the like.

I Always Say Yes

Italo reissue, originally recorded just over ten years ago, showing off the best aspects of a genre enjoying a continued refresher. This represents the less bombastic style, rooted more firmly in older Patrick Cowley-esque disco hits but with all the romantic drama found in Italo's most endearing examples.
