Life Force: Original Video Game Soundtrack

The Konami Kukeiha Club presents the original soundtrack to Life Force, the 1986 arcade game spin-off to the hugely successful Gradius game. Over four sides of vinyl, there’s the original NES/Famicom edition of the soundtrack in its 8-bit glory, plus the MSX version of the score that sounded deeper and more complex because of the Konami SCC add-on chip. Includes new artwork from Tbone & Aljax and liner notes courtesy of games journalist Anthony John Agnello.

Castlevania

Music that was originally composed for the tiny 8-bit chips of the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) back in 1986 is now receiving a full vinyl release for the first time: could composer Kinuyo Yamashita ever have predicted such an outcome? The Castlevania soundtrack is brief but memorable, with an amazing range of sounds wrenched out of that NES. 10” vinyl release on Mondo.

Metal Gear - Original MSX2 Video Game Soundtrack

Metal Gear was released in Japan in 1987 as the MXS2 version. It wasn’t available elsewhere for a long time. The seminal game is considered one of the best games of the ‘80s, essential in fact, and has spawned a whole series of games that are considered to be among the best there is. Here we have the first ever physical release of the original game’s soundtrack on 10” vinyl, cut at 45rpm.

Castlevania - Symphony Of The Night

Michiru Yamane’s music for Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night has long been considered one of the best and most original videogame soundtracks. The score’s hugely varied influences - everything from Baroque composition to Japanese city pop to techno crops up here - means it still sounds unique more than 20 years on from the game’s release. Now Mondo have released a new version of the OST with seven bonus tracks that had previously only featured on the version of the game issued on Sega Saturn (whatever that is…).

Gradius III

Gradius III was the Konami game series' first foray into 16-bit and it had a suitably futuristic soundtrack, released here for the first time on vinyl. Written by Konami Kukeiha Club, the soundtrack is jarring synths and spacey tinkles and it evokes the feeling of racing through space with your mates on a rainy Thursday afternoon.

Gradius II

Strap-in and get ready for take off! Remastered and released on vinyl for the first time is the soundtrack to Gradius II the Konami shoot-em-up game. Konami Kukeiha Club created a raucous riff of electro-rock for the game that sounds like you're in an arcade game and is cool as hell. The A-side is the original game score, with the score to the MSX computer version of the game on the B-side.

Gradius

The soundtrack to 80’s scrolling space-shooter classic Gradius, presented in both NES original and 1989 MSX versions. Listening to these hyperactive 8-bit synth melodies on vinyl, you can of course hear the whole thing clearly, without the endless bleeps of your lasers. Actually a remarkably strong listening experience. From Ship To Shore PhonoCo.
