Castlevania - Symphony Of The Night

Michiru Yamane’s music for Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night has long been considered one of the best and most original videogame soundtracks. The score’s hugely varied influences - everything from Baroque composition to Japanese city pop to techno crops up here - means it still sounds unique more than 20 years on from the game’s release. Now Mondo have released a new version of the OST with seven bonus tracks that had previously only featured on the version of the game issued on Sega Saturn (whatever that is…).

Snatcher (Original Videogame Soundtrack)

1988 video game Snatcher, a cyberpunk adventure designed by Hideo Kojima no less, has a wonderful soundtrack that has never previously seen the light of day on any proper music medium. Attributed to Konami Kukeiha Club, the Snatcher soundscape is full of dramatic floaty synths and exciting neo-brass: great listening for fans and non-fans alike. Double LP on Ship To Shore PhonoCo.

Gradius III

Gradius III was the Konami game series' first foray into 16-bit and it had a suitably futuristic soundtrack, released here for the first time on vinyl. Written by Konami Kukeiha Club, the soundtrack is jarring synths and spacey tinkles and it evokes the feeling of racing through space with your mates on a rainy Thursday afternoon.

Gradius II

Strap-in and get ready for take off! Remastered and released on vinyl for the first time is the soundtrack to Gradius II the Konami shoot-em-up game. Konami Kukeiha Club created a raucous riff of electro-rock for the game that sounds like you're in an arcade game and is cool as hell. The A-side is the original game score, with the score to the MSX computer version of the game on the B-side.

Gradius

The soundtrack to 80’s scrolling space-shooter classic Gradius, presented in both NES original and 1989 MSX versions. Listening to these hyperactive 8-bit synth melodies on vinyl, you can of course hear the whole thing clearly, without the endless bleeps of your lasers. Actually a remarkably strong listening experience. From Ship To Shore PhonoCo.

Mondo’s ongoing Castlevania series finds the label reissuing two more soundtracks from the seminal video game franchise. Here we have the music from Rondo Of Blood (1993) and Dracula X (1995) games. This is golden-age Konami Kuheika Club stuff, all power-pop synth fireworks and guitar stunts lifted from the world of Japanese wrestling.

Lagrange Point

Lagrange Point was an old Nintendo Entertainment System game with a unique twist: it contained a special chip that enabled FM synthesis as well as the usual 8 bit business. Add in the gorgeous compositional skills of Konami Kukeiha Club and we are onto a winner. This Ship to Shore PhonoCo. release is the first ever Western issue of this score, and on purple marble vinyl no less too!

Contra 3: Alien Wars - Original Video Game Soundtrack

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Contra game franchise Mondo bring us the soundtrack to the 1992 sequel on vinyl. Because Alien Wars was on the super nintendo the composers had so much more to work with in terms of production and could seriously let loose. The result is pretty mad, and filled with insane percussion and time signature changes.

Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse

Rich and influential chip music from the 1989 Nintendo Entertainment System / Famicom game Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. This Konami Kukehiha Club music is now getting pressed to vinyl for the first time ever, and if you are wondering whether this is the Japanese or the US version of the audio (different chips meant key variations), no worries, this Mondo pressing features both in full! Double LP release.

Castlevania

Music that was originally composed for the tiny 8-bit chips of the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) back in 1986 is now receiving a full vinyl release for the first time: could composer Kinuyo Yamashita ever have predicted such an outcome? The Castlevania soundtrack is brief but memorable, with an amazing range of sounds wrenched out of that NES. 10” vinyl release on Mondo.

Castlevania II: Simon's Quest (Original Video Game Soundtrack)

Return your ears to the heyday of 8-bit videogaming with this release of the soundtrack to Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest. It remains amazing that Konami Kukeiha Club managed to create such rich and texturally-varied music out of the slender resources available to them, but they certainly did. This Mondo vinyl release features both the NES and Famicom versions.
