Following on from the tradition of Film and TV themes that were perfected over the pond in the Hollywood studios by the likes of Henry Mancini, the theme to 60s UK P.I. caper, Man In A Suitcase scored by Albert Elms and Ron Grainer is one of the best examples of "crime jazz". A man in a suitcase. Imagine that. Some of the more long-in-the-tooth of you out there may remember when the Man In A Suitcase run aired on ITV between 1967 and 1968. The show drew praise when it first emerged, and not least for its original score. With Ron Grainer (Doctor Who, Steptoe And Son) handling the main theme, Albert Elms busied himself with the incidental pieces. The resulting compositions, released on vinyl here for the first time, are part-library big band and part-swinging ‘60s ye-ye struts.
