Parker Vinyl, CD & tapes by Parker at Norman Records
It's always a good time for Brötzmann, especially when the old sax-man is playing with the unbeatable rhythm section of William Parker and Hamid Drake. Totally intuitive and highly inventive interplay is the name of the game. The sounds of Song Sentimentale were recorded live in front of a rapt audience at London’s Cafe Oto last year: the record is released by Oto’s own Otoroku label.
Now here’s an interesting one: two of these musicians (pianist Matthew Shipp and bass-player William Parker) are from the world of free improvisation and jazz, while the other two (Beans and Hprizm of Antipop Consortium) are from the world of hip-hop. The adventures the quartet go on are very interesting, playful throwing around phrases and grooves in a quick-moving tussle between words and music. Knives From Heaven is released by Thirsty Ear.
