Kim Gordon
No Home Record

A new solo record from the iconoclastic Kim Gordon, co-founder of Sonic Youth and an acclaimed solo artist since their demise. No Home Record is preoccupied with the feelings of transience and displacement - both physical and spiritual - that go hand-in-hand with modern existence, and consists of nine tracks of exploratory alternative rock.

Sonic Youth
NYC Ghosts & Flowers

Reissue of Sonic Youth’s 2000 album NYC Ghosts & Flowers. Scene leaders of no wave and noise rock in NY since beginning in 1981, they had all of their equipment nicked whilst on tour in 1999 so were forced to write without their usual modified guitars and effects. The results are quite profound from what you would usually expect from them.

Body/Head
The Switch

Free noise rock duo Body/Head are Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth, Free Kitten) and Bill Nace (X.O.4, Vampire Belt, Ceylon Mange). They bring together numerous oxymoronic terms: dark/light, black/white, emotion/analysis. Hence, the name of the band 'Body/Head'. Not necessarily oxymoronic, but you get the idea. The Switch is their second full-length studio album, following previous records for Matador and live albums via Deste Foundation and Feeding Tube Records.

Body/Head
No Waves

Body/Head is Kim Gordon and Bill Nace, each hunched over their avant-guitars and using all their experience from Sonic Youth, Ceylon Mange and so on to whip up feedback storms and heartfelt noises. Gordon also donates some of her beat poetry vocals to No Waves, a document of a set performed live in 2014. Out on Matador.

Sonic Youth
A Thousand Leaves

One of the more experimental records from later on Sonic Youth, there's still plenty of tunes to be had at. It even topped The Wire's records of the year back in 1998! 'A Thousand Leaves' is full of psychedelic suites, dissonant riffing, feedback collages and the ultra-cool delivery of three of their four members. Includes the well-known piece 'Sunday'.

Sonic Youth
Confusion is Sex

Your favourite uncle of noise rock, ok, maybe more like wisen parents, Sonic Youth’s 1983 album Confusion Is Sex is a dark backwards step into their more primitive state. Noisy, disjointed and clanky as hell. Guitars being destroyed for your listening pleasure. Repressed by Goofin’, good work guys. Yes. Just Yes.

Sonic Youth
The Eternal

From the crunch and screech of opening number ‘Sacred Trickster’ you know that Sonic Youth are not messing around on ‘The Eternal’. Their fifteenth and final LP, this 2009 set sees the more considered sound of 2006’s ‘Rather Ripped’ exchanged for some of the meatiest riffage that Sonic Youth delivered at any point in their career (well, their later career at least). Grinding yet melodic, ‘The Eternal’ is a parting throwdown to all the young pretenders who had come out in the band’s wake.
