Rupert Clervaux
After Masterpieces

Rupert Clervaux of Sian Alice Group and CVX now strikes out with a solo record of his own under his own name, titled After Masterpieces. The core of the sound is Clervaux’s poetry, but there is plenty else going on, with Anna Homler, Sian Ahern and Eben Bull contributing to the LP’s rich sonic worlds. Out on Whities.

CVX
Zibaldone III Of CVX

The third instalment of Rupert Clervaux’s Zibaldone Of CVX series is a collection of ‘multi-angle audio mosaics’ from the London-via-Mallorca sound artist. While Zibaldone III may initially seem obtuse and hostile, if you persevere you’ll stumble on some rather profound stuff. Synthesising snippets of spoken text - poetry, radio broadcasts, lectures, you name it - with everything from lo-fi techno to closing-time piano jazz, CVX has made an oddly compelling work here. Imagine Karlheinz Stockhausen if he’d ever hooked up with Jan Jelinek.

CVX
Zibaldone I of CVX

CVX sees Rupert Clervaux (Sian Alice Group and one-time Beatrice Dillon collaborator) spread his wings and soundscape two readings from Italian poet Giacomo Leopardi’s notebooks. That said those coming here for simple washy ambient niceness are in for a pleasant surprise - the b-side throbs with energetic drum loops and propulsive melodies. The 12” includes a neat fold-out poster.

Studies I-XVII for Samplers and Percussion

A title such as Studies I - XVII For Samplers and Percussion is likely to draw in a certain kind of listener isn’t it? They’ll be happy with this record from Rupert Clervaux & Beatrice Dillon, but others should check it out too, as this is, for all its rigour, a very enjoyable set of highly rhythmic excursions. LP on Snow Dog Records.

Two Changes

2 very inventive artists join forces here on Two Changes: composer and DJ Beatrice Dillon and former Sian Alice Group founder Rupert Clervaux. They melt down their considerable talents and wide stylistic range into 2 side-long tracks that use acoustic and electronic drums, field recordings, synths, zithers, bass guitar… Stacks of sounds here. Out on Paralaxe Editions.
