Delta Rain Dance (Glenn Astro)
Trancemission/Transmission

See, Glenn Astro’s new Delta Rain Dance, yeah - it’s a Trancemission right, but it’s also a Transmission. Get it? So what that means is that the first side (the Trancemisison) of this album is all pretty keys and dub techno with the techno taken out, while the second (the Transmission) brings things back to the floor through some leftfield house and dub techno with the techno left in. Think Grouper, Garrett and Ross From Friends.

Glenn Astro & Hodini
Turquoise Tortoise

Collaborative weird funk album from Glenn Astro and Hodini. Collaborative might be a bit misleading as the distance between Berlin and Cologne meant the pair worked on these tracks separately. Turquoise Tortoise becomes one in their constant referencing of each other's tracks. Released on Apollo.

Max Graef & Glenn Astro
The Yard Work Simulator Remixes

Max Graef and Glenn Astro show off the excellent skills of some of their producer mates by letting them tamper with their very finely-named album The Yard Work Simulator. Stepping up today are Byron The Aquarius, IMYRMiND and Greg Beato, all doing some real messed-up funky work. 12” release on Ninja Tune.

Max Graef & Glenn Astro
The Yard Work Simulator

First of all, shout-out to the Simpsons reference. The Yard-Work Simulator is the wild collaborative work of Glenn Astro and Max Graef. Being put together in Berlin, it is sort of a given that this record would turn out danceable, but Astro and Graef’s approach is nice and weird, unpredictable and inconsistent. The Yard-Work Simulator is out on Ninja Tune.

Max Graef & Glenn Astro
Magic Johnson

After releasing his excellent debut LP, Rivers of the Red Planet last year, Max Graef has become a man in demand. Here he’s in collaboration with Glenn Astro and I couldn’t think of a much better collaboration than that. Magic Johnson is the result, a danceable, percussive jam with links to jazz and funk but feeling really modern.
