Alan Bishop Vinyl, CD & tapes from this artist at Norman Records
Koes Barat by Koes Barat is essentially a collection of tracks from Alan Bishop covering his favourite Indonesian songs. It's an odd mix that is probably a result of the multiverse theory, because let's face it, I'm not too sure how normal that mix is for our known universe? Anyway, Koes Barat is available on vinyl LP and it is worth noting that this is a Record Store Day 2015 item. Released on Sub Pop.
Sam Shalabi divides his time between Montreal and Cairo. A prolific collaborator, he’s been perhaps most widely heard at the helm of Shalabi Effect or with A Silver Mt. Zion. Here he delivers a dreamy, side-long oud improvisation, and goes electric for a jam with Sun City Girl Alan Bishop (aka Alvarius B.) on vocals and sax. Prime east-meets-west vibes from two longtime itinerant souls.
"A" Trio with Alan Bishop
Burj Al Iman
Sun City Girls legend Alan Bishop joins in with the Lebanese A Trio for this Beirut session. Burj Al Iman has 3 smoky improvisations and original takes on a traditional American folk tune and an old Sun City Girls number. A Trio are excellent at whipping up droning atmospheres behind Bishop’s vocals and finger-picked guitar. 500 LP copies on Unrock.
Alan Bishop originally got together with Kerbaj, Sehnaoui and Yassin to produce the first loose sketches of the ‘Burj el Imam’ album during a trip to Beirut to participate in the annual Irtijal Festival for Experimental Music in 2012. The album wouldn’t be completed until a year later when Bishop returned to record three improvised tracks as well as a Sun City Girls cover ‘The Imam’ and a cover of the traditional Americana song ‘Gently Johnny’.
