Nathan Micay
Whities 017

You might remember Nathan Micay from his days as Bwana, but the Berlin-based Canadian is done with all of that now. His first release under his given name is a Whities drop, which means that it’s pretty much guaranteed to be good. It would seem that Micay’s new alias has allowed him to clear the fog that often fell over the Bwana stuff. ‘First Casualty’ and ‘Beginning Ballads’ are lovely things that sound like There Is Love In You-era Four Tet.

Bwana / Lor
Cin Cin 004

The established backing the newcomer here from Cin Cin records. Two tracks a piece from Bwana and Lor. Bwana’s brings big room house synths from early 90s on Generation Nostalgia and more delicate nostalgia on Annex 90. Lor’s offerings are spacious, playful and casio toned with distinct Kraftwerk leanings.

The Capsule's Pride

Bwana is that oh-so-common of beast; a Berlin-based techno producer. His beats, however are somewhat more unusual. Having initially gathered accolade after having been discovered as a free download on the dark web, Capsule’s Pride is now released on vinyl for the first time. It takes inspiration from the 1988 anime, Akira, with all the sounds coming as samples from the film. As such Bwana’s techno combines traditional Japanese folk music with filmic synths. A corker this one.
