Halloween III: Season of the Witch

Round three for the Halloween franchise brought big witchy vibes to the franchise, but most important for our current interests here is that John Carpenter and Alan Howarth took a thrilling new approach for their soundtrack! Yep, Season of the Witch features massive synth business, big enough to have become an underground dancefloor staple in places. Out on Death Waltz.

Halloween 4 + Halloween 5 + Collectors Box Bundle

2018 marks forty years since the release of the first film from John Carpenter’s seminal Halloween franchise. Over the years, the music of Halloween has gone on to assert almost as great an influence on the cultural landscape as the movies. The sound-world Carpenter and Alan Howarth created down the years, full of eerie synths and drum machines, is now instantly recognisable. Here Death Waltz have collected Howarth’s scores for the fourth and fifth Halloween movies, given them some new artwork and housed them in a box.

Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myres

Unfortunately nothing to do with THE Mike Myers, Halloween 4: The Return Of Michael Myers was the first film in John Carpenter’s Halloween series that saw Alan Howarth composing the music solo. He took to his new-found freedom with gusto, layering every-more campy organs and ghoulish synths over the bones of Carpenter’s ideas. Now the score is reissued with new artwork on Death Waltz.

Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers

Look, everyone knows that by the time the Halloween franchise got to its fifth instalment The Revenge Of Michael Myers, the whole operation stank. John Carpenter wasn’t involved anymore, and the series had descended into cranking out lowest-common-denominator gore-fests. However, Carpenter’s old pal Alan Howarth was still doing the music, and that means that the soundtrack stands as one of the film’s few redeeming features. Now that score has been released in a nice vinyl package by Death Waltz.

The Lost Empire

A kick-ass soundtrack to a kick-ass movie, reliably reissued on Death Waltz. The Lost Empire is a good-old fashioned international action thriller from 1983, directed by Jim Wynorski. He was one of the lucky directors of that era who got synth-wizard Alan Howarth in to soundtrack their picture, and that’s what we have pressed to 180g wax right here.
