Explosions In The Sky Vinyl, CD & tapes by Explosions In The Sky at Norman Records
Briefly known as Breaker Morant, Explosions In The Sky formed in 1999 and have been living up to their name ever since. There’s likely never been a band as able to capture the awesome broad appeal of fireworks. They do it with an instrumental post-rock, three guitarists and a drummer who together can move even the sternest listener. And if for some reason you can’t figure out their music, ridiculous album titles like The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place and Take Care, Take Care, Take Care will certainly help.
There’s is a career that’s resulted in a couple film soundtracks, a lot of euphoria, and one very bizarre conspiracy theory. Alongside the likes of Sigur Ros, Explosions In The Sky make the sort of music that advertisers like. It’s heartfelt and earnest, it gets straight to the point. Long gone are the subtleties that defined the early post-rock made by the likes of Bark Psychosis and Labradford.
This immediacy is also reflected in how Explosions In The Sky record. Their ‘secret’ album The Rescue took 8 days to record while their debut How Strange, Innocence, took only 2. Those other bands were trying to be experimental, Explosions in the Sky want to be pop.
