Forest Drive West
Blue 05

Whities reignite their Blue Series with a drop from Forest Drive West. The London producer’s considered brand of techno has always felt like a good fit for Nic Tasker’s label - indeed, it’s somewhat surprising to find out that Blue 05 is Forest Drive West’s first Whities drop. ‘Other’ and ‘Time’ are both dubby, evocative rollers that show FDW as instantly at home in his new surroundings. Not dissimilar to Batu.

Forest Drive West
Static / Escape

Deliciously twisted, synth lead techno double A side from Forest Drive West. Around a stark set of drum patterns, spooky stabs and bass breath life into 'Static'. On the other side 'Escape' is a far stranger affair, with a more understated use of melody in favour of atmospheric non-music and skittering rhythms.

Forest Drive West
Set Free EP

Only love can set you free, of course, but if there’s none of that around then you’ll have to make do with an EP from Forest Drive West. Originally released in 2016, Set Free gets a reissue via RuptureLDN (Double O, Outer Heaven) after FDW’s successful recent stint on Livity Sound has raised their profile somewhat. The tracks here are skittish, airy exercises in junglism, full of thick sub and whirligig breaks.

Forest Drive West
Persistence of Memory

Forest Drive West are trailblazers. Persistence of Memory, the new three track 12” on Hidden Hawaii, sees explorations into minimalist techno being fused with a successful attempt at drum and bass revival. It all makes for an intriguing cocktail, or perhaps spirit and mixer, by the enigmatic dance act.

Forest Drive West
Jinx / Scanners

Two tracks of deep, dark, slow-shuffling techno from Forest Drive West. Jinx and its partner Scanners both seem to have been submerged in some kind of liquid smoke, giving them a slightly distant and booming flavour that is highly alluring. This weighty 12” is out on Peverelist & co.’s Livity Sound Recordings label, where it fits neatly with the house style.

Forest Drive West
System / Show Them

Livity Sound’s persistently confusing inverted sister label Dnous Ytivil (keep up the good work guys!) present the debut release of Forest Drive West, a new producer who fits right in with the darkly shuffling atmospheres of the label. System / Show Them is a very strong start, expect to hear these cuts creeping around your dancing space before the year is out.
