Mating Surfaces

Angles and rhythms aplenty from Portland's Lithics. Second album Mating Surfaces maintains momentum with fast riffs, mobile bass lines and tight drumming. Their rhythmic approach to the overlap between indie and punk is reminiscent of Dutch greats, The Ex. And if you know me that is certainly high praise.

Borrowed Floors

Lithics set themselves out to be a ‘minimalist punk band’, which is a great way for punk to be: cut out the extraneous material and leave the taut wiry core. On Borrowed Floors they play very tight indeed, with even the sharp no wave freakouts feeling highly controlled. They’ve got a well-deployed saxophone too. Edition of 300 LPs on Mississippi / Water Wing Records.
