Sunwatchers
Oh Yeah?

Well you have to laugh don't you? Everything about New York's Sunwatchers is somewhat contrary. Their name suggests summery power-pop but their music is darker and experimental. The sort of music that should be Dead Serious but the band have a playful side oddball song titles and in jokes. This six track effort is their fourth so far and sees them compared to the likes of the Fugs and Horse Lords.

Illegal Moves

Anybody looking for psyched-out rock with a hint of free jazz and a ton of organ can get their fill here with the new Sunwatchers album. Illegal Moves hosts the usual jams approaching the excessive, left-field chord progressions, and endless solos (both guitar and organ), but also some slightly more meditative tunes -- at least in comparison to the proper noisy stuff.

Sunwatchers
II

A completely bombastic, globe trotting psychedelic journey with a spiritual home in Brooklyn. This outfit smash together wah and skronk, liquid bass and driving rhythms to create hypercolour, throwback rock action. Perfect bleached out hits for fans of Sun City Girls, African psyche and heaven knows what else.

Sunwatchers

Heavy and avant-garde drone rock on the Castle Face label. On their self-titled album Sunwatchers make a dense and repetitive instrumental music that borrows from rock, free improv and minimalist composition to create something not much like any of those genres. It’s like a giant La Monte Young-listening jam band making the loudest, strangest and most astonishing racket they can.
