Prana Crafter & Tarotplane

A split album featuring a side-long composition each from Prana Crafter and Tarotplane, Symbiose is an apt title. Respectively crafting ‘Jagged Mountain Melts At Dawn’ on side A and ‘We Move Slowly Through The Past’ on the flip, the two pieces connect American underground electronica with old-fashioned European independent music.

Baltimore resident PJ Dorsey releases his first album as his solo project Tarotplane. First is a nicely psyched-out journey, with tasty lashings of komische. Guitars are treated and reverbed, tape loops and field recordings filter in and out of the mix, and the results are all-round transportative. LP release on Aguirre.

358 Oblique

Adopting the title of one of Beefheart’s most monolithic tracks as an artist name is an audacious dog-whistle move. In fact, PJ Dorsey’s music has more of a Kosmische / Popol Vuh vibe (the Baltimore musician’s previous album was on Aguirre after all). Two really nicely thought out pieces full of shifting drones and subtle melody, with great sound design.
