Vlimmer
XIIIII

The concept behind this EP by Berlin-based project Vlimmer is a man who goes back in time to find out the circumstances of his birth. I know full well I was born in Newcastle General while my dad was off checking the Newcastle United score but it may be more interesting in other cases. Anyway this guy gets stuck there and it is soundtracks by post-rock, shoegaze, dream pop and post-punk. Limited handmade sleeve thingy.

XIII

Those of you who’ve been keeping up with Alexander Leonard Donat’s output as Vlimmer these past few years will know what to expect from new EP XIII. Donat has carved out a niche as one of modern coldwave’s most prolific and impressive artists, and these five tunes do nothing to upset that particular apple cart. Much of this EP kicks and screams, but cuts like ‘Kontakt’ are slow and insidious in that Alice Glass kind of way.

XIIII

Under the title of Vlimmer the one born Alexander Leonard Donat has released EPs at an impressive clip these past few years. Vlimmer’s debut release I only came out in 2015, but as you can see Donat’s already hit XIIII (and a few more un-numbered titles) before the decade is out. Keeping busy clearly suits Donat - by now he’s got his brand of theatrical coldwave down to a fine art. Fans of Gestalt, Absolute Body Control and the rest should scooch on over to this record.

Vlimmer
X

The 10th EP in an 18 EP series started by Vlimmer way back in late 2015. Not sure why he decided to do this, but now he's reached X which vitally shares it's name with an Ed Sheeran album. Dark post-punk that really shows off the growth made by the musician in the last few years. On Blackjack Illuminist Records.

Randow (Original Soundtrack)

Randow is a regular podcast show about a village that sits next to a space-time hole where a city used to be. Basically, LOST in a forest. On soundtrack duty is prolific darkwave/postpunk songwriter Vlimmer, this time reining in the songcraft to make some droney dark ambient atmospheres to accompany an eerie and unsettling story.

IIIII

Berlin’s Vlimmer still intends to complete a hefty series of 18 EPs, making this fifth edition still comparatively early in the proceedings. I hope he adopts a clearer numbering technique soon though, as IIIII is already a little difficult to read… The sounds are brighter than usual, though still with lots of cinematic synth-moodiness. CD EP release on Blackjack Illuminist Records.
