Ennio Morricone
4 Mosche Di Velluto Grigio (Four Flies On Grey Velvet)

4 Mosche Di Velluto Grigio (Four Flies On Grey Velvet) is a 1972 film by Dario Argento. The soundtrack was composed by the legendary Ennio Morricone. It is in turn, manic, tense and discordant with moments of jazz rock. It was orchestrated by Bruno Nicolai and features the vocals of Edda Dell’Orso. A fantastic late night listen.

Ennio Morricone
Space: 1999

Italian composer Ennio Morricone is an icon of film soundtracks, having created the scores to most of Sergio Leone’s films, including A fistful Of Dollars, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, as well as The Thing and Mission To Mars. Here Death Waltz have Ennio’s composition for the Italian full length feature version of the TV Series, released in 1975, where he turned Barry Gray’s music into freeform space jazz.

Ennio Morricone
Western

Ennio Morricone is one of the most revered film score composers. To celebrate his talent there is a series of themed double LPs, each dedicated to a genre of film. Here we have Western, a genre he made his own. It contains selections from the scores to Once Upon A Time In The West, A Fistful of Dollars, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, A Pistol for Ringo and The Return of Ringo.

Ennio Morricone
Metti, Una Sera A Cena

The maestro Ennio Morricone takes a laid-back approach in his soundtrack to Metti, Una Sera A Cena, matching the film’s eroticism with bossa nova and lounge stylings. You can really feel the celluloid of late 60’s Italy brushing against you when you listen to this. The vinyl is beautiful: blue, white, green and transparent wax all swirled together. On AMS Records.

Autopsy (Macchie Solari) (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Another Ennio Morricone treat pulled out of the vaults and onto tasty vinyl for you all to enjoy. The soundtrack to giallo flick Autopsy, which has never previously surfaced on wax before, is Morricone in heavy experimental mode, with lots of wild dissonance and interesting textures, not least from the vocal cords of Edda Dell’Orso. Mr. Morricone never lets you down.

My Dear Killer

Ennio Morricone’s score for 1972 film My Dear Killer is put to wax courtesy of Death Waltz. A classic of Giallo - that’s the Italian horror/thriller genre which acts a predecessor to U.S. slasher flicks - My Dear Killer’s appeal is due in part to its highly atmospheric scoring. The music here is quite far removed from the Morricone work you’ll be most familiar with, with the composer utilising a kind of creepy, screwballed lounge-jazz style throughout. Features some vocals from Edda Dell’Orso.

Amer (Colona Sonora Originale Del Film)

The 2009 film Amer is made by hardcore fans of Italian horror movie history, so naturally they really went to town on the soundtrack, using sounds by 70’s cult composer legends Stelvio Cipriani and Bruno Nicolai. Oh, and Ennio Morricone himself! Plus some ‘tension loops’ in the wax. 500 copies only, on We Release Whatever The Fuck We Want.

The Hateful Eight

The complete recordings of Ennio Morricone’s original score for The Hateful Eight, now on 180 gram vinyl LP. These arrangements for Quentin Tarantino’s film make up Morricone’s first Western score in 40 years and it easily competes with the grand, unique and strange orchestrations of his Sergio Leone classics. This release includes musical cues from the rest of the film, jacket with soft-touch finish, 60” x 12” poster, 36” x 12” poster and booklet.

The Black Belly Of The Tarantula

Death Waltz provide us with another classic of Italian horror with music from the legendary Ennio Morricone. LA TARANTOLA DAL VENTRE NERO (BLACK BELLY OF THE TARANTULA) is reckoned by aficionado's to be one of the best gialli made. Morricone’s score throws in jazz fusion, seductive vocals but is defined by the more uncomfortable and scary atonal sounds, insectoid strings and stabbing percussion. In typically luxurious packaging with 180g vinyl this is a must for horror and soundtrack fans.

Un Uomo Da Rispettare

Still the reissuers keep digging, and still the vast soundtrack archives of Ennio Morricone keep providing high-grade goods. Un Uomo Da Rispettare, a 1972 crime flick starring Kirk Douglas, drifts into some real deep avant territory: eerie atmospheres and dissonant orchestrations, very nice indeed. Reissued by Superior Viaduct.

The Mission: Music From The Motion Picture

Another sterling film score from the bottomless archives of the great maestro Ennio Morricone, put back into circulation at last. The Mission, a big ticket film that starred Robert De Niro, is about a clash of cultures, and Morricone works aspects of each culture (native American drumming, Christian choral song etc) into his music. Ennio Morricone film soundtrack #7063 accompanies Sergio Corbucci’s 1966 film I crudeli (The Hellbenders). The film is a spaghetti western, and needless to say, Morricone scores it like a pro: he pretty much invented this universally recognised sound after all. 180g vinyl reissue on Bella Casa.

Il Buono, Il Brutto e Il Cattivo (The Good, The Bad and The Ugly)

Ennio Morricone, he of the thousand film scores… (I exaggerate, but he has literally scored more than 500 films). Lots of reissues of his works around at the moment, and this one certainly won’t need any introduction. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly contains probably the most well known of all Morricone’s themes, a deserved classic.
