The Mystery Lights
Too Much Tension!

Very scrappy and committed punk rock from The Mystery Lights. For WICK (a Daptone subsidiary), the band release their second album Too Much Tension! This is a record that moves like a cannon, barrelling through while drawing on the likes of The Kinks and Television. Best is the lead singer's powerful yelp that acts as guide to the the songs.

The Mystery Lights
Thick Skin / In The Darkness

It's all change in the world of New Yorkers the Mystery Lights as they move out of the 60s into the hip and happening 70s for this latest record.  The group's no-wave sound and big backbeat are said to bring to mind older purveyors of the darker side of life such as MC5 and the more experimental side of the Velvet Underground.

The Mystery Lights

The Mystery Lights see themselves at the vanguard of the New York City music scene, bucking the apparent trend of “no good NYC bands”. They buck this trend with high energy guitar rock-and-or-roll, tight and fast and a wee built soulful when they want to be. Their self-titled debut full-length is out on WICK Records.

The Mystery Lights
Too Many Girls / Too Tough To Bear

It’s some 1960s style rock 'n’ roll for you here from The Mystery Lights. Too Many Girls sounds like a lost 13th Floor Elevators tune (without the electric jug unfortunately) while Too Tough to Bear is a psychedelic-blues number, both with the singer’s voice crooning on top of some killer guitar.
