Sunflower Bean
Show Me Your Seven Secrets

Sunflower Bean are a New York band with a sound somewhere between shoegaze and certain strands of post-punk. The Show Me Your Seven Secrets EP is their debut release, and it makes for a very strong introduction. Six tracks of thickly-produced, tight-yet-loose jams, pressed to clear vinyl on Fat Possum.

Sunflower Bean
King Of The Dudes

Following on from their breakthrough second album, Twentytwo In Blue, New York three-piece Sunflower Bean give us a new EP, King Of The Dudes. It features the bleached grunge-pop single ‘Come For Me’ which Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac apparently got an extremely hot copy of, but still liked it very much. 4-track 12” EP on Lucky Number.

Sunflower Bean
Twentytwo in Blue

Sophomore LP from New Yorkers Sunflower Bean, following up 2016’s Human Ceremony. The three-piece band return to their classic rock vibe, this time with lyrics influenced by the volatile political climate of the last couple of years. The sound of a young band getting stronger in an unstable world. On Lucky Number, and available in limited blue vinyl.

Sunflower Bean
I Was A Fool

Dreamy-creamy-jangly-psych-pop from the  Sunflower Bean, on a single sided 7"; their first release with Lucky Number/Mom & Pop. If Fleetwood Mac got into shoegaze in the 90s, maybe they would have made something like this. As the ancient saying goes: don't judge a band by its naff name.

From The Basement

Four cover songs from New York trio Sunflower Bean, the follow up to February's dreamy psych rock debut album 'Human Ceremony'. Here we have songs originating from Neil Young, Spiritualised, Modern Lovers and T-Rex. Neo-psychedelia on 12" coke bottle green vinyl. Limited edition from Fat Possum records.

I Hear Voices / The Stalker

I rather enjoyed this little single from Sunflower Bean, a fresh young band making highly energised slightly-psychedelic slightly-punk indie rock. I Hear Voices has an excellently reverberating lead vocal over a frantic drum-beat, while The Stalker lurks on the B-side, like a stalker. 7” on Fat Possum. Warning: Arse on sleeve.

Sunflower Bean
Human Ceremony

Sunflower Bean release their debut full-length album, Human Ceremony. Apparently the band decided to deal with the question of what sort of music to make by resolving all their different interests (dream-pop, heavier rock forms etc.) into one sound. The results sound pretty damn fully-formed, so good on them. Released by Fat Possum.
